Using Artificial Intelligence to control a building

Sounds cool doesn’t it? And it is! Priva has developed a system that optimises the energy use of industrial buildings like offices. They use preditive algorithms to forecast the energy production and demand. The system achieves a higher level of comfort at lower costs. But how do we convince building owners to surrender their buildings to an algorithm they don’t understand? We have created different interactive visualisations that give an intuitive insight into how this system works.

Back to basics. An interactive visualisation where the AI controls two buildings. This example shows how energy can be intelligently shared between buildings.

We then added more buildings but the visualisation quickly became too complex to understand. On to the iteration!

This was the simplest version and the first iteration of the project. In this version, we established a link to the AI and visualised the data in a 3D environment.

Funny how projects start one way and end somewhere completly different. This was the actual first deliverable of the project. A video that showed how an old building could be augmented with a Priva-built greenhouse.

The main tool for this project was Unity, where we’ve built the environments and read the data using C# programming.
